As research for @vamuseum @museumchildhood, we are very excited to be heading to Cambridge today to have an afternoon cuppa with Tom Karen OBE, legendary designer of icons from our childhood, including The Raleigh Chopper, Marble Run and Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder. As chief designer of Ogle Design from 1962 until 1999, he also oversaw the design of the Bush Radio TR130 radio, the Bond Bug, the Reliant ScimitarGTE, the Anadol A1 (FW5), a series of lorry cabs for Leyland. Born in Vienna in 1926, he went to school in Brno. The family left Czechoslovakia in 1939 and Karen reached England in 1942.
